In this episode of From the Pasture with Hired Hand, we talk with Ben Stone from Double S Ranch about new breeder experiences. Double S Ranch is located in Texas' Hill County. They produce some animals strictly for beef, the majority of their herd is involved in their longhorn breeding program. Each one of their cows are thoroughly evaluated for coat color, horn growth, ease of calving, and overall conformation. Once evaluated, they are placed with a bull who will provide the necessary genetic compatibility towards producing an extremely high quality calf. Ben shares his experiences as a new breeder and some good advice for others starting out.
