If you're new to our From the Pasture podcast, this is one of our special pre-sale episodes. Our regular shows feature ranch stories, breeder interviews, and cattle knowledge. But today we're focusing specifically on this weekend's Texas Longhorn sale. So if you're wanting to learn more about Texas Longhorn Cattle Markets or you're a registered Texas Longhorn breeder looking to expand your herd, you'll want to tune in to today's episode. I'm Jamie. And I'm Molly. We're the owners of Hired Hand Software and Hired Hand Live, and we're excited to bring you a closer look at this upcoming sale. In today's episode, we'll be talking with the sale host about consignments, sale details, and what to watch for in the ring. You can view consignments at hiredhandlive.com and in most cases, visit the consigners hired hand-powered websites to learn more. Now let's jump into this weekend's sale preview.

Jaymie

I'm here with Joe Sedliček and Dan Huntington, the sale host for the upcoming Bluegrass sale, which is held in Lexington, Kentucky. Joe, Dan, and I will be talking about the sale details sponsors, consigners, and of course the consignments. As we talk about the consignments, you can follow along on hiredhandlive.com. And if you want to dig deeper, take a look at the consigners hired hand websites. Let's get into it. Well, good morning, boys. How's it going?

Speaker 3

Good morning. Good morning. Going great.

Jaymie

So this is, I believe, the second year that you have hosted the um Faturity, the Bluegrass Faturity, but the first year that you've hosted the Bluegrass sale. What um made what made the what made both of you want to step up and be the host of the sale this year?

Speaker 2

Well, I think it's just um it's been a really great event that we've been part of uh for quite a few years anyway, with um helping with Huntington sales and the aspect of it there. Uh the fraternity world is just getting bigger and bigger. Last year we had a record number, and this year we broke that record even larger with 337 entries. So the the excitement is uh is there and um it just seemed uh the right step to step into the role of of hosting um the sale as well as we were already there doing the fraternity.

Speaker 4

We uh host it last year and it was very successful. Been working the sale for the last want to say five years now for Bill and Liz, and um they've decided to focus all their energy towards their stock show, the Fort Worth show and sale there. And um he came to us and asked if we would take it over kind of a natural fit with what we're already doing, and we saw it as a great opportunity. I mean, it's been a really strong Midwest, regional, East Coast kind of market, and I mean it shows with the futurity, with the amount of support it gets, and as well as the amount of new buyers this year, you know, we're kind of expanding, trying to directly market a little bit more in the Kentucky, Tennessee, that whole entire central region by doing some more local marketing throughout the sale barns and stuff like that. And I think it's just a really vital important sale in the country. I mean, it's a it's kind of right in the middle of that whole area, and um, it's brought in a lot of new people um and really felt it strongly that the market needed to stay there. So, I mean, that's our big reason, my biggest reason that we really wanted to be involved and step up and take the sale over and continue it.

Jaymie

Joe, you've had longhorns since you were 15. What does it mean to you to be able to be a sale host after raising longhorns for the last 30 years?

Speaker 2

Well, it's pretty exciting um to be able to co-host it with Dan. Um, you know, I've I guess for the last few years, especially just learning the behind the scenes of how the sales work and and um everything that goes into it. Like everyone sees the day of the sale or the day before the sale, but there's months and months and months we've been preparing for this sale, and uh it's it's a lot of work, and I guess I was honored to uh even be uh asked to help uh co-host the sale.

Jaymie

Do either one of you remember the very first year of this sale? Because it started out, I believe, in bowling green, but I don't remember the first year that it ever started.

Speaker 4

Um that was when Joe Valentine and Bill moved to Bowling Green. I gosh, that's gotta be 10, 12 years ago already. Um because I believe we've been in Lexington for the last five. Maybe possibly longer, maybe seven. The years go by so darn quick.

Jaymie

I th I think I wanna I wanna say like maybe 14 2014 or 2015. Seems like forever.

Speaker 4

Yeah, that sounds I mean, that's 10, 11 years ago, yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I remember the I believe it was the first sale they had. Um, they had the Southeastern Um Association was doing the fraternity at that time, and I remember walking down that first aisle, and there was two little bull calves in this pen, and they ended up being that ended up being Hubble's 20 gauge and his full brother. So um, yeah, that's been quite a few years ago. So that was uh that was pretty cool. That's where those were some of my first experiences with the fraternity world that really got me excited was was probably going to uh the fraternity in conjunction with that sale in bowling green.

Speaker 4

Actually, that wasn't Sutla that started that. That was actually just Terry, Terry King, Nancy, and Jimmy. I don't even think they were actually associated with Sutla at the time, but yeah.

Jaymie

Well, let's talk about um the sponsors for your event. Um, I know that you have is it eight um eight sponsors in your top package, and then you have some other sponsors as well. Let's talk about those.

Speaker 4

Sure. Um, the eight VIP sponsors, I mean, once again, I mean, they're regional people that felt very strongly about continuing to market there. Um, obviously, first of all, Hudson stepped up and they're a VIP sponsor. Um, the Hoosier boys have been amazing sponsors throughout the years and stuff like that. They're in and with us. Uh Jim and Ansley Lowinger really, I mean, the marketability there. And actually, our first guy that jumped up out of it all was uh Josh Shaw, you know, up in Michigan, and he realizes the value in it and wanted to be our first VIP sponsor. Then we've got Mr. Sir Travis Johnson, um, everybody's buddy, Ricky McLeod. I mean, how can you have an event without Ricky there? You know, it's awesome. Um, and then we have the McIntyres are coming up all the way from Texas supporting it. They've been a big supporter of the futurity world over the last few years, and we, you know, definitely appreciate Jeremy and Lindsay stepping up and being a sponsor for us. Um, and I think that's all eight, correct? Um, Diamond Bee.

Jaymie

Diamond Bean.

Speaker 4

Yep.

Speaker 3

We got Diamond V ranches. Oh, Diamond B, yeah. I'm sorry, Colin. Yep.

Speaker 4

Um, yeah, yeah. And that's cool. I mean, they're coming up all the way from Amarillo supporting the futurity and the sale. They put some great animals in, and um, we really appreciate Colin making the big journey up there. We're gonna you know, treat our VIP sponsors to some really great, neat things. Um, but let's not forget, you know, our our bull sponsor. We got um Hudson jumped up and is doing the heifer sponsor. Meal sponsor is um Stone Creek. They're doing the meal sponsor, and then our bar sponsor, George and Annie Wardsbaugh.

Jaymie

And then you have a whole list of class sponsors.

Speaker 4

Tot Ernst, I'm sorry. Yeah, and our class sponsors. We've got 16 classes, Joseph.

Speaker 2

We got yep, we have 16 classes. So we expanded it. We started out with 13, and um, we already had a lot of um our classes broke down by month, like March, April, May were already um individual classes anyway, individual months. Uh, so those are gonna stay pretty large classes, but we did um break down a few of the other ones that were we had some 45 almost 50 animals in classes, so we split a few of those to make the uh 16 total.

Jaymie

Well, before we move on to the futurity, let's we have a I think there's a couple of other sponsors that you may want to mention um for the sale.

Speaker 3

I want to pull them all on.

Jaymie

We had Hidden Springs, Flying Bee, Northview, and then RTG, correct? Correct. So let's jump into the schedule of events for the weekend. What um what what is the earliest people can drop their animals off on Thursday?

Speaker 4

Uh the crew will be ready for them early as they get there Thursday morning. Our crew's gonna be there on Wednesday night getting things set up. So, you know, whenever you can get there. Uh earlier is always, to be honest with you, kind of good because late in the day it gets pretty chaotic. Um, we got a good crew back there, but it still takes a little bit to put everything away.

Jaymie

And the latest they can drop them off on Thursday.

Speaker 4

Um, I believe our posted cutoff time is like eight o'clock. Um I'm not encouraging or anything like that, but if the if something does happen where it transpires where it's gonna be later, please contact Ammon or contact me or Joe or whatever, just so we can let people know out back. Um we're there to uh accommodate, but don't abuse it. Let's put it that way.

Jaymie

So the cattle arrive on Thursday, on Friday morning right away. What times did for heifer faturity start?

Speaker 4

Um, heifer faturity, we've got 10 a.m. worth start time. Um, we're gonna probably have to push that up a little bit due to the number of cattle we have. Um we will we'll make that announcement real shortly on social media net if we have to move it up. We've got to look at our timeline. The good thing is we're not having a sale or anything on Friday night. So we you know we've got all day to run the cattle, which with 330, it could possibly take all day to get them through.

Jaymie

So Joe, do you know the breakdown between heifers and bulls?

Speaker 2

Yes, there's uh 247 heifers, and then there's uh 90. We ended up with 90 bulls. So that's the to me, to my knowledge, that's the most bulls I think we've ever had at a fraternity. I don't remember 90 bulls at any other fraternity.

Speaker 4

Yeah, that's a it's a huge number. Um, I think it's by far. I mean, we broke last year's record of 309 or whatever by quite a bit.

Speaker 3

So yeah, it's gonna be a huge opportunity.

Jaymie

Who did you select for the judges this year?

Speaker 2

Our judges are um Holden Portney. He's a a younger guy that has been in the breed for a few years. Um, and then we have Tom Ryder. Uh Tom Ryder has he's judged quite a few fraternities across the country. Tom's been a very good judge for us. Um and then we got Sean and Allison Sayer. Uh they host the uh BNC sale there in Missouri. Um so we got a husband-wife team there. Um I just wanted to prove Allison was the better judge than Sean, so I I asked her to judge as well. Um, and then the great Kevin Bryant. So he uh he has always got a lot of good opinions after each show, so I I told him that now it's time for him to judge uh a big one like this. So I think he's was honored to to take on a giant fraternity like this. Uh that's something that we we don't look at enough. I think this is 337 animals in one day. This is a gonna be a lot for these judges to actually look at and evaluate. And so we really thank each one of those for joining on with us here to to be our judges.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of sitting and judging for them all. So that'd be fun.

Jaymie

So after after the futurity, I'm sure we'll take a short break so the bat crew can get the animals sorted to head on to the next event, which is head to head. Explain how that's gonna work.

Speaker 2

Um so what's gonna happen is each class champion is gonna come back in in a bracket style. So we've got 16 classes. Um, I believe 10 of those, there's 10 heifer classes. So the 10 heifer class champions will come back in and go head to head to get to the grand champion, the thousand dollar prize that uh Hudson Longhorns is uh sponsoring. And then we got six classes of bulls is gonna do the same thing. And um that class sponsor was um David and Reddit Henry of DR Henry Ranch. So then they'll go head to head for that. Um when we're giving away a thousand dollars. I I think everyone enjoyed it last year that we did it, and I think it's a fun way to actually get to that thousand dollars.

Jaymie

What happens after the head-to-head?

Speaker 4

We call it a day. Now, after the head-to-head, there'll be a little bit, it's gonna take a few minutes to get everything put together. We're gonna have a uh dinner that which, like I said, is sponsored by Stone Creek Ranch uh after, and we're gonna have an open bar by sponsored by G ⁇ A Country Club, uh George and Annie Wartspaw. Um, and then we will, once we get all that kind of situated, then we're gonna do the awards Friday night for the futurity.

Jaymie

It's a long day on Friday, but you'll get the entire Futurity head to head and everything awards and everything wrapped up.

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 4

Everything for the fraternity will be done on everything, all the fraternity-related stuff is gonna be done on Friday.

Jaymie

So let's move on to Saturday. The sale starts at 10 a.m. If somebody has questions, sale day, who should they get a hold of?

Speaker 4

Um either myself or Joe will be around the office. Yeah. Um, you know, Chase Chase loves being text on the block. So I mean that is something I'm gonna put out there. Please don't text us large messages while we're on the block trying to auctioneer and stuff. Um, but you know, beforehand, definitely get with us. We're gonna be around. Chase will be around all weekend and stuff. If you got your notes, you got questions, comments, or something, um please, please get to us before we're up on the block. That we definitely appreciate that. It gets it gets hard, and we've had it already where we've missed some messages in that while we're on the block because we're actively and busy. Um, like I said, just please please reach out to us before we actually start the auction with all your notes and things. So um, yeah, other than that, I mean contacts. Joe and Allie will be around the office, sale office is there. Jamie, you're always online there. Definitely you can message Jamie or whatever for questions and stuff, and she can communicate with us.

Jaymie

And you mentioned Ammon earlier. Um, Ammon is Ammon Mass, Allie's husband, and I believe his phone number is in the sale catalog if anybody needs to get a hold of him because he's handling the back crew.

Speaker 4

Correct. It it's in the sale catalog and stuff, which the sale catalogs we do apologize they're not getting out a little bit earlier, but you will have them. It's also online.

Jaymie

So has anybody said that they're going to be available for hauling?

Speaker 2

Um, we will definitely get a list of uh haulers together. And um I know I will have room coming back towards Kansas, uh, but I know there'll be a whole list uh that we'll get together and have uh that put out on social media and hired hand before the sale.

Speaker 4

Yeah. I know as Ezra's gonna be there. Um we can always get in contact with Cody James, he'll probably be available. Uh Diamond B is heading back that to Texas. We'll we'll figure out ways. I mean, obviously, like Joe always says, we never we've never left anybody's cow behind, so we'll get it figured out one way or the other. We need to get transportation.

Jaymie

So well, let's talk about the consigners next. Um, you have a whole whole list of them um from all over the place. Is there anybody that's new to the sale this year?

Speaker 2

Um, I feel like we had a few Kentucky people that were new. Uh Tim and Layla Robinson. Um Yeah, yeah. I believe they're new to the to the sale world out there. Um then we also had uh uh Bill Troyer from Ohio. I believe. I believe that will be another new person as well. To the bluegrass sale. I believe so, yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

Jaymie

What about Quarterhorn Ranch? Is that a new one?

Speaker 2

Uh yeah, I believe as well. Like at least to the bluegrass, it would be a new consigner.

Jaymie

Then of course you have the oldies but goodies, Savannah with Leonard, New River Ranch, Ricky, Hoosiers, Nathan Jones, 2020.

Speaker 4

Hudson's got five nice animals in there. Hudson.

Speaker 2

We got Judy Mary McLeod here in Kansas. Mm-hmm. We'll have a couple consignments.

Jaymie

Those consigners consigned, I believe, 56 lots to the sale. Are there any scratches or any subs that you know about right now?

Speaker 4

As of now, the only sub I know is lot three, Mike Tomy's. And that should be updated shortly here on Hired Hand. I just got all the information.

Jaymie

Dan, what do you know about the sub lot for lot three?

Speaker 4

So lot three sub is going to be triple R Miss Abilene 626. Um, she's a 712 uh 2016. Uh black and white. She's out of, so she'll go back to like Hodaldo checks on the top side and Dick Lowe breeding on top and bottom, and she'd be out of a real granddaughter, going back to Phenomenon and stuff on the bottom side. So pretty black and white. Yeah, Mike, his other cow that was lot three, they couldn't confirm that she was bred, so he decided that it was best off to pull her and you know, put a substitute in. Um, I once again, you know, it's always tough on substitutes. However, it looks like he substituted really, really nice black and white, flashy young cows. So uh looking forward to seeing her.

Jaymie

Okay, let's get this roulette started. Let's start with lot seven. Um, it is FL Flatland's Delight from Flatland Longhorns.

Speaker 4

Okay, yeah, this is one of their best producing cows throughout the years. He's contemplated selling her a bunch of times, but has always kept her. They've retained, I want to say they've got three, four daughters out of her. So actually the best producing cow that he's had to date, he says. And um really great, great looking cow. She's got a lot of time left in her. I mean, she's gonna produce well for anyone that really wants a serious cow.

Jaymie

Next up is from um HB Longhorns, lot 10. H and B Penelope 07.

Speaker 2

Okay, so yeah, so lot 10 is from our VIP sponsors, HB Longhorns. She is an own daughter of that stone red bull that um Josh and Megan have been really producing some amazing animals out of. Um, your stone red also produced your 2025 damn of the year at Laidback Ranch. So this would be a half-sister to the damn of the year from last year. Um, she's confirmed bred to the Hicks Aquaman, which is uh a true black son of the Danny boy. So you got the Danny line coming in there uh with her breeding of who she is bred to and um a beautiful stone red daughter from Josh and Megan Shaw.

Speaker 4

Yeah, and one thing I'll add, I mean, I love that color. She's got that kind of a light grilla tannish color to her. It's pretty cool.

Jaymie

Well, let's talk about one of Greg's girls, uh lot 11, LBR Rustic Delilah. Um, yeah, from Laid Back Ranch.

Speaker 2

Okay, Lot 11. Yeah, she's uh from Laid Back Ranch. Greg caught um, she's a beautiful daughter of Diego BCR 948. Um Greg's always bringing some awesome animals. Um he's huge in the fraternity world with his females and his bulls, and uh we're really excited to have um Greg bringing a young female to the to the sale for us.

Jaymie

Lot 14 is next from um Emmanuel Miller with Northview Farms, and her name is NV Stardust.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I think this is probably one of the highlight cows of the sale. Um when I first saw what he sent in from Emmanuel. I mean, she is a knockout drag iron daughter that I think would help anybody's program. She goes back to real breeding and stuff on the bottom side, but just a really nice big. Solid, solid drag iron daughter. It's that's some genetics that are, you know, obviously are getting farther and farther back in the pedigrees and stuff. And um, here you got an opportunity at a an own daughter of drag iron with, like I said, lots of, you know, she's just a 2020 model. Um, a lot of a lot of really good production. Super glad to have her. And once again, want to thank Emmanuel for sponsoring the event, too. So we definitely appreciate him bringing a great one here.

Jaymie

Well, we'll move on to another one of the sponsors, um, RTG Ranch, lot 17, RTG Smooth Sahara.

Speaker 4

Okay, I'll grab that. The RTG boys, if you don't know them yet in the industry, you better pay attention. I mean, they're building a serious, serious program up in New York. Um, and they're raising some amazing animals. This is a a little young girl here out of PCC Cactus Jack. And if you haven't seen what, you know, Cactus Jack has been definitely hitting it out of the park. And a great bunch goes back to helm breeding on the bottom side, um, top caliber and stuff back into pedigree. This little girl here, I mean, I think this is gonna be a really a standout, standout consignment. And um, just coming two-year-old, not until August, two-year-old. Um, I'm sure they'll have updated measurement stuff on sale day. Good lateral horn. I mean, not much else I can say, but this is gonna be a really, really nice consignment. Um, definitely gonna want to get in on that one.

Jaymie

Joey, tell us what you know about lot 21 from Jeremy and Lindsay McIntyre with McIntyre Farms. It's HL Sharp as a tack.

Speaker 2

Yeah, um, she well, you can see by the photo, she's a beautiful Brendel Cow. Um, she's just a young female. She's only three and a half years old. Uh, she's a daughter of HL Heads Up, making her a half sister to Head Over Hills. Um, you know, she herself is just a beautiful female. She's got swagger, BCB on the bottom side. Um, she is confirmed bred to the great KDK Wildfire Bowl. So um surely around mid-June you should have a uh wildfire baby as well. So it's um a tremendous consignment from Lindsay and Jeremy. Um sharp as attack should be uh another a top cow at the sale for sure.

Jaymie

Well, these next um people we've talked to, we've mentioned a couple of times, Hoosier Longhorns, Dan and Tracy Jones, uh their lot 24, Betty Davis Eyes.

Speaker 4

You can't say enough good things about the Hoosier boys. Great bunch of people. Um, and they have been putting together a breeding program over the last, I think they've probably been in at this 20 years already, plus maybe. Um and they've put together some amazing sets of cattle. Um, this is a native legends daughter, which brings in so much genetics here. Um, she's a goes back, you know, Jaguar checks, expedite, you know, you got Monica breeding in there, you've got the Delta Lucky Ace and Native Dreams. Um, native dreams we just sold for at Legacy 58,000. Um, so this would be like a granddaughter of um, you know, your native beauty. Then you go to the bottom side on this heifer, and if you look back into pedigree, you know, you got Triple L lucky, and there you got Delta Dawn, you got Flash, you've got so much genetics here, and um just a great young, young heifer here, um, just a common four-year-old heifer in the Hoosier boys. I mean, they they definitely know how to breed them and put out some big dollar animals. And right here's a a young young female that I think could help out just about anybody out there.

Jaymie

Well, next let's talk about lot twenty-nine three P Rebel Safari from Flying B with Jordan and Hunter Bolti.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so um we we thank uh the Bolties for bringing um this young female out here. She's only uh not quite three years old yet. Um, and uh she's a daughter of J. H. Rule Safari son, which there's your over 80-inch um true black. You know, he's over 90 um to be on the list. Uh his mom was the great Knight Safari cow, which is where a lot of your um true black, over 80-inch plus animals are all coming from. It's all coming back from that night safari line. Um, she has got a heifer calf at side, born 1227 of 25, um, by Bayou Buckshot. Um, and she'll be exposed to the Country Song Checks Bull, which is the spotlight bull for the uh 2026 Horn Showcase. He is the the face of the horn showcase this fall.

Jaymie

Well, next up is one from Terry and Tammy King with TK Longhorns, lot 32. River Forks pretty smooth.

Speaker 2

River Forks Pretty Smooth. Yeah, she's uh uh daughter of Game Plan. Um Game Plan has been uh he's an investment son, which has been a huge part of Terry and Tammy's program. Um it's been Jimmy Jones' program. The game plan bowl is is definitely one you want in there. On the bottom side, you've got uh Terry and Tammy King's Breeding all over the place here with uh that Riverforks little Empress cow as uh the grandmother of this female. Um she is exposed to the Jackson BCR bowl, which is a bowl that um the the whole group of them own together. Terry, Jimmy, um, and uh I think Jeff Wilson maybe even is in on that bowl. Uh but young female, she's uh just a three and a half year old, and um we'll come to uh the sale bread to Jackson, BCR.

Jaymie

The next one is from Travis Johnson, about 35. Um Travis is with uh LTJ Longhorns, and her name is LTJ Surf Girl.

Speaker 4

All right. Well, first of all, it's Travis's, so it's gotta be good, right? Serve Travis Johnson. Yeah, once again, I mean I like to talk a little bit about the cows, but also about the people that are bringing them to us. Travis, you know, has been just a whirlwind who's splashed into the industry. And man, he's done a lot of good things, very positive upbeat, dude, and looking, you know, to push this breed a little bit farther forward. Talking about the cow, once again, you know, Joe just talked about investment. So she's a daughter of investment. So I mean, that's bringing in your cowboy checks and your Hubble's uh Rio 007 and horseshoe breeding on the bottom or on that side of the bull. Then you drop down to the bottom side of it, and you mean you go back to Jamaicanism and vanilla pudding, and I mean, so many great animals, some more horseshoe J breeding on the bottom side. Um, just a really nice, nice, flashy young lateral horn cow, just like you know, coming three-year-old. Uh, great package there. Once again, Travis brings us. We do appreciate his support and being one of our VIP sponsors, too. So um, yeah, here's another great, great consignment for y'all.

Jaymie

Well, with this next one, we've already talked about his brothers, so let's talk about his consignment. Nathan Jones, his lot is uh 43. Uh Nathan is with Wild Serenade Ranch, and her name is Wild at Heart.

Speaker 4

Well, Nathan Jones, my old little buddy there, back in the day when the futurity of the North was the thing. We were the thing. So um uh me and Nathan worked together a long, long time ago before the futurity world really took off. And uh he's been putting together, I mean, once again, like you said, you know, his brothers get a lot of accolade and stuff, but Nathan has bred some really, really amazing animals himself. Um, and he brings us a beautiful black and white young cow. Wild at heart's her name. She goes back, you know, you got some Providence BCB, a little BCB breeding show, and uh Delta Dawn back in her pedigree. And Darek's bringing it back. We got some drag iron, just a really great package um in a flashy, flashy black and white cow. And we've seen um over the last couple of years those flashy black and white cows, everybody wants them. So um great little package, my old buddy Nathan brings us. So I'm looking forward to seeing her in person.

Jaymie

Diamond B Ranch is next on the list with um Benny Brugman or Colin Wyatt, the ranch manager. Uh lot 45, BR Checkered Crown.

Speaker 2

Um, okay, so yeah, this is a great young female. Uh she is just turning three years old, and uh she is a Brian Brett bred female. Uh Sire is the true black and white BR checkerboard, which gets you grand safari checks, which goes back to that night safari cow I was talking about earlier. Um on the bottom side, she's out of a uh Cracker Jack daughter, uh BR Crown Princess. Uh she comes to you um exposed to the DB Dragon's Mark. Dragon's Mark is the bull who was extremely competitive last year at the Legends Paturity. He is a point mark son out of Dragonfire. Dragonfire is that really bighorned drag iron daughter that Diamond B has um out of a Cowboy Tough Checks daughter. So you got a very stacked pedigree of who she's bred to. Um we thank Benny for um being a VIP sponsor and and and bringing something this tremendous out of his herd to to the sale.

Jaymie

Well, we can't forget about the ranch that started all of this. Um Hudson Longhorns will talk about their lot 49 BL Brookie.

Speaker 3

HL Brookie, close you were though. Um close.

Speaker 4

Yeah, once again, you know the Hudson's. I mean, everybody knows Bill and Lives. They're great, great people, huge supporters of the industry, and they've done um some just, you know, and let's not forget Willinger there, Mikey. Um they've they've built just an amazing program using their own breeding. I mean, they've outsourced some of the great genetics to put together a breeding program that I mean they just every time they bring something to town, I'm like, wow, that's really nice. Then they bring some more, and it's like, holy crap, that's even better. So every year they they're progressing, moving forward. If you want to buy cattle that are structurally well made, great milkers, great females, great, you know, bulls, stuff like that. Um, they they just put together a really, really complete animal. Mike come from you know the background of the cattle world his whole life, and um they they know how to put them together. Now, little brookie here. I mean, that's a heads-up daughter. We sold some huge dollar heads-up um offspring. And once again, I mean, uh this is just a really, really nice, nice young female going back to you know, Rio and you know, and all of the breeding on the bottom side. We got some El Coyote breeding in there. What a great package! They just know how to put together great females. You're not gonna have problems with milking and structure problems or feet problems. Mike is such a good cattle guy with uh breeding that type of bad traits out of his animals and producing these really, really sound, sound females and males that they've been producing and helping the whole industry. Um, once again, I mean, Lot 49, uh I wouldn't mind having her at 5D, I'll be honest with you. So um just a lot of good quality animals. Hudson's got five in the sale, um, and we do really appreciate all of their support, and we hope to make them proud and keep the industry in Kentucky and southern Indiana moving the right direction for them.

Jaymie

So well, let's talk about what uh Mr. Ricky McLeod is bringing. Uh his lot is that 51 SDR Long Road.

Speaker 4

All right. Well, first of all, like I said, we'll talk about the consignment in a second, but I want to talk a little bit about Ricky. Ricky has been such a great supporter throughout the industry. Um, you want to have a good, fun event, you got to have Ricky there, you know? And it's super fun to see his young son there. Ezra is kind of taking over the passion with the cattle and stuff. Ezra's been back and forth with me messaging, entering the cows for Ricky and Ann. Um, Ricky's a hell of a businessman. He knows a lot of stuff, but don't put a computer in front of him. Uh so Ezra, Ezra's this IT guy now. And uh he he supported us in so many events, and we definitely appreciate all of that. He's one of our VIP sponsors. We got his special order stuff coming for him. Uh, but you know, once again, he's just a really good dude. And he brings us this SDR cow, a very nice, well-put-together young cow yet. Um, Hubble's breeding on the top side, to Hubble's long range, which brings in your cowboy checks. Hubble's real glory in there. Um, we got drag iron on the bottom side, gunman. We got a bunch of, we got a little bit of old school in the bottom side with it. Um, just a great recal. Um, I don't have the breeding, you got the breeding status there, Joe.

Speaker 2

The hang okay, so she is bred to the KCC hanging on to you. That's a hangin' tough son. Um that is, I believe he's mid-90s tip to tip. He is a tremendous hangin' tough son. Yeah, it says he's almost 100 inches tip to tip.

Jaymie

Well, Joe, I think you know this next one pretty well. We're gonna do lot 53 um from Tallgrass Cattle Company with Judy Meredith, HBR Monica's lady.

Speaker 2

Yes. Um, okay, so uh I'll do the Dan way here and we'll start talking about um Judy Meredith. If you don't know Judy, uh we lost Bill this last year. Um but Bill and Judy were they're the ones, the reason we have hundred thousand dollar plus cows in the industry. If every legacy sale they went to, they for years bought the high-selling cow, um, $100,000 plus. Uh they were the ones that actually originally bought uh the Danica cow and um later on sold her to Mike Davis. And uh so Judy's herd is full of these tremendous animals at the ranch. Um, this is uh this is one um I'll blame myself a little bit. This was the best picture I had of her. Um so we use this photo of her, but when you see her in person, she has grown a lot of horn from this photo. Um, she's a Monica son daughter. So you've got the great ringleader and Lady Monica on the top side. On the bottom side, you've got Safari BL checks um and Power Strokes lady. Uh Power Strokes Lady is that it's a it's an older family, um, but me and Dana both had um um Valentine, our Valentine cow with tremendous horn came from that from that family. So this cow has got horn on every single branch of her pedigree. Um the cool thing is she is coming to you bred to LTL Blue Streak. Um Blue Streak is an over 90-inch true blue bull. Um blue streak is a double barrel sun, so you've got 20 gauge in that pedigree. Um, and blue streak is one of these rare bulls that has uh the blue color with a lot of horn, and he's reproducing that in his in his offspring as well. So his heifers, um Judy has got five of the most tremendous blue, black and white heifers out of blue streak that she is holding on with a death grip. So she will not let go of those for anything. Um, so this is an awesome female coming to you, bred to blue streak, um, from an absolutely legendary uh ranch with Tallgrass Cattle Company.

Jaymie

And the last one we'll talk about is Lot 56, HS Rodeo Queen from Hidden Springs.

Speaker 4

All right, so once again, a little props to our Carol, Carol Powell from Hidden Springs. Um, she's been a, you know, since she's came into the industry six, seven, eight years ago, ten years ago, maybe. I don't know, we lose track of time. Um, she's bought some really amazing animals. Um, and she's doing it all out in North Carolina, and she's put together a really nice program. And this little HS rodeo queen um, you know, goes back to Hubble's breeding on the top side. So we talked about you know, the sire of the year a couple times now. Hubble's 20 gauge is up in the top side. Um, there's a grandsire. On the bottom side, we got that rodeo drive cow. So when when I was looking through her cows and I was talking with Jay over there at Hidden Springs, was looking at them, and what I look at in this young cow is I look at the potential in her. If you look at that rodeo drive cow, probably one of the coolest horn set cows in the industry. Um, and I see it in this cow. This is one of these cows. She may not have a crazy big tip-to-tip measurement right now, but if you look at that horn direction and what they're doing at her age, she's gonna do some pretty amazing things before she's all done. And she's gonna get that cool triple twist type thing that we all look for um in that that that breeding. So, I mean, this is one of these cows that she's a little later in the sale in it, but definitely don't overlook her. She's a good young cow that I think is gonna turn into something really, really neat in the future. So uh definitely gonna want to wait for this one.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and she comes to you uh bred to the over 80-inch true black BR carbon copy bowl, too.

Jaymie

That wraps up catalog roulette, and then on Sunday, you would like all the animals to be out uh by 10 a.m. So I guess wake up early and head down the road.

Speaker 4

There you go. Uh um yeah, we've the crew will be there early. They're actually we've got the crew is actually staying at the barn to get their RV and stuff like that. They're gonna be staying there. So uh Ammon will accommodate. If you talk to those guys, they're they're really a good bunch. If you do need transit pens in that, you need to contact us a little bit earlier, let us know what's coming and stuff, and you'll have to pay Ammon for transit pens. But there are pens available. That's the one cool thing about the bluegrass. We never run out of pens, guys.

Jaymie

Well, is there anything that you would like to talk about that we maybe missed?

Speaker 4

Um I don't know. I don't have a whole lot else. Um, I think it's gonna be a great event. Um, I think the entire lineup all the way across. I'm really, really pleased. I mean, I from Joe and I, I mean, I'd like to thank all the consigners, uh, all the people in the region that have stepped up and helped support this event. And um all our intentions are let's keep going forward with it. Um and I think it's gonna be a good sale. I think it's gonna be a hell of a futurity and uh excited to see everybody again. I mean, it's been a week or two since I've seen most of y'all.

Jaymie

Well, thanks for joining us. We can't wait to see you and everyone else at the Bluegrass Sale in Futurity. Make sure to check out the consignments ahead of the sale and follow us for more updates. Until next time.
