I'm here with Ann Grabbitt, the sale host for the upcoming GG Fall Classic, which is held in Culpeper, Virginia. Ann and I will be talking about the sale details, sponsors, consigners, and of course, the consignments. As we talk about the consignments, you can follow along on hiredhandlive.com. For those people who may have not heard of you for some strange reason, can you give yourself a little introduction?

My name is Ann Gravit, GMG Longhorns. Uh, live in Rochelle, Virginia. Been in the Longhorns um since the late 80s, uh, when Ben and I kind of switched over from the quarter horse world to the longhorn world. Unfortunately, I lost him in 2014. He passed away. And since then, I've just been kind of still hanging in here with all my Longhorn friends and Longhorn people and still doing our thing. So hopefully I'm doing him proud.

I'm sure you are. I'm sure you are. You're you have your hands in quite a few sales throughout the industry. So I'm sure he is. Well, it seems like we were just in Virginia for the cherry blossom sale. It just the whole past few months has flown by. I don't sure maybe has felt that way for you. Yes, for sure. Okay, so for someone who has never been to the Fall Classic before, what are things that they should know before showing up? Like things they maybe can't find in the sale catalog?

Um, what when you arrive, you're um if you're bringing cattle, you're gonna unload your cattle. Um, there's a sign that'll point you direct you to the back of the barn to the unloading area. The guys will be back there, the back crew. Uh you'll give them your health papers uh from your vet and unload the cows, get them to their pens. Water's gonna be already in the pins for everybody. Sail cattle will be taken care of by my back crew, um, Sean and his guys. They'll be fed and watered. Now, the fraturity animals, they'll have water in their tubs when you get there, but you'll be in charge of keeping keeping the water to your animals after after you unload and get everything set up.

And then after that, just enjoy the weekend, right? Enjoy the weekend. That's right.

Hopefully we're gonna have great weather. It's a little warm right now, but we're supposed to have a little bit of a cold front coming in. So I hope so. It'll be perfect.

Well, while we're talking about the schedule, when people are dropping animals off on Thursday, what are the hours that they can drop animals off?

SPEAKER_02 3:38

Thursday, it's gonna be mostly all day. Sean's an early riser, so he'll be up there. If it's gonna be at an oddball time, uh either late in the day or if something happens and you need to make a special time, uh, Sean's phone number is in the catalog or on the uh website. And or you can get it from me. Um just contact him and let him know what time you're gonna be arriving, and he'll be there to meet you with with your cattle. So that's not a not a problem.

And then what time does everything start on um Friday?

Friday, the fraturity is at starts at 11. So that'll go till usually it does till about, I don't know, maybe three or something like that, depending on the number of entries. We've got 123 entries this year. Um, then there's a little bit of a break before the party back at my house in Rochelle that starts at six o'clock.

And uh, who are the judges you're having this year for the maturity?

SPEAKER_02 4:35

Judges this year are Dave Pine, Dylan Scarpa, Mike Willinger, Luke Pine, and Jay Walkter.

Very nice. And then the awards will be given at your your um ranch. Yeah, the party and the awards and the dinner will be back at my house. So then that will wrap up Friday for all of us. What about Saturday?

Saturday um is there'll be the you'll have viewing all day. Um, well, it's till the sale starts. Seven till let's say 10. Uh the sale starts at 11. So about 10 o'clock, the guys will run everybody from the back and have to start getting animals stacked in sale order to get them ready.

So And who are the sale day contacts should someone have questions? Um Sean Pecanot, uh Chase Vasuit, and myself. And then you said Sean is handling the back crew, him and his crew of people. Um have you are there any haulers that you know of ahead of time?

Dylan will be heading back out west. Um and uh Dan Grove is also, you know, our local guy that he hauls, well, he do not doesn't haul just locally, he alls kind of all over. Um not sure. It just depends on if anybody else, they're not listed as a hauler, but just there'll be people there that can usually help out with different areas.

Yeah. And of course, well, I'll be sure to always mention if there are additional people besides Dan and Dylan, um, I'll be sure to message that out to people online. Yeah, yeah. If they need any need any. Uh the sale committee. Who who's the crew that helps you with all this?

Um, it's myself and then Sean Pecano and Chase Vasut.

And the sponsors, of course, we've got to talk about them.

Yeah. Um, sales sponsors. Um, this year uh had a had a big crew stepped up to sponsor the sale. We've got um Greg and Nikki Gilly, Travis Shauna Johnson, David Retta Henry, Crider Valley Longhorns, Ricky and Ezra McLeod, Carol Powell, Wayne Manning, Ryan and Brandy Schmidt, Randy Murray, John and Christy Talley, Bill and Suzanne Torkelson, and Jay and Susie Walkthur. So a lot of them stepped up.

Yeah. It sounds like some some veterans that you've that are always there, like the core people, and but then also some new people as well, which is for sure. We do. We do have some new ones. Well, let's talk about the consigners. Uh, is there any are there any new consigners this year that have never been here?

Yes, yes, very excited about that. Um, Sam Fisher's bringing two, um, really good, really good little young animals. Brian Knolt, Kyle, and Autumn Rombacher, uh, Greg Suzanne Cap Suzette Capp are coming. And uh Suzanne Torkelson, she's never been here before. She's bringing an animal this year, and Mike Casey's sending an animal this year. That's kind of a blast from the past.

So yeah, no kidding. No kidding. Yeah. That's uh that's quite a few new people. Um that's not normal for a sale to have that many new people. So that's wonderful.

Yeah. I mean, it just these these sales just get a lot of interest out here with people just getting into it and uh people kind of direct them this way as from different areas as they get started in longhorns, and it's just uh it's a good, it's just a good way for them to get started without having to travel maybe too far out west yet.

Yeah. Well, and I think was it this year at the Cherry Blossom where some of the buyers were brand new and they came in and they bought a whole bunch.

The last two two years at each of the sales, we've had like up to five and six new buyers every every time, which is very exciting.

Yeah, yeah. For industry. Yeah. Um, had have you spoken to them? Are they gonna come to the fall classic this year? Yeah, a lot of them are, several of them are. That's wonderful. Um, okay, so now let's go ahead and we'll get into the consignments. Are there any scratches or any subs that you know of right now?

Uh uh lot 35 is the only scratch so far that I know of. Um uh Sam Biler, Black Blog Farm, had to put in a sub, and boy, did he put in a really, really good sub for us. So um that's that's all that we've heard of so far. We were we were saying this morning, today's kind of the day with the people that wait till last minute to get their health papers will if there's any new updates that like an open pal or something, we would probably hear from them today. But so far, no, we haven't, so it's good.

Very nice. Uh so let's go ahead. There is a choice lot in the sale, I believe, and it's lot one, uh A and B. You want to talk about that one?

It's the twins, yeah. Daniel Putt put in. I think he's selling both. Um, obviously, the whoever bids first will get the their choice of whichever one. Um so it's kind of a neat lot. They're uh out of a really good cow that he's got out of the Don't Stop Believing Bull is uh who they're by. So it's it's just a neat little fun thing to start the sale off with the twins.

Well, are you ready for a round of catalog roulette? Sure. All right. Let's start that with uh lot two, ECR lovely rose, um, from Rob Fenza and Walkters. And Wilson, yeah.

Um yeah, she's a pretty neat cow, El Coyote branded cow, which is really cool. Um 97 inches. Uh she's AI'd to MC hanging tough. I mean, they brought a really good package. Uh she's had several of her offspring sell for well over five figures. So that's a pretty it's a pretty exciting consignment for here.

Yeah. Well, the next one we'll scroll down to is silver satin from Kurt and Glenda Twining.

Yep, Kurt Twining. Yeah, she he's gotten three heifers in a row out of her is the reason he's decided to to let her go. That's one of his Call of Duty daughters. Her mother is a 95-inch cow, and of course she's still young enough that she's gonna she's close to 90 now, I believe Kurt said. Heavy, heavy bred to PCC dark dust. Um, he was saying might be sale day. So uh hopefully she'll get here, get here safely before she decides to have the calf. But that'll be an exciting calf with dark dust.

All right, I'm gonna scroll here a little bit farther. Let's go with lot um, lot nine from Hudson Longhorns, all cozied up. Okay.

Yeah, that's just a young girl that they've put in. Um her pedigree is just a who's who of uh some of the big ones, Jamaican's Alfie, Jam and Jenny, Helm Adela, Lady Monica, two times back to the Pacific Mermaid Cow. Just a nice little young, young heifer that's uh she's not exposed yet. She's too young for that. But um, heifers are just doing so well at the sales lately. Everybody seems to like to gamble a little bit more on the heifers. So they've they've sent us a good one.

Well, you mentioned Suzanne Torgelson before. This is her first time at the sale. So let's talk about her lot 11, BCR Pizzazz.

Yeah. Uh yeah, again, Bill and Suzanne, they've never been, and she just decided this year she wanted to go somewhere that she's never been before. So she chose here, and I'm pretty excited about it. I hope she has a really good time. Um hers will be two in November and is express uh exposed to Halifax, which that's exciting. Uh, that's a bull Dale Hunt is using him now as well. And I think with the Torquelsons, and he's by BR Real Deal and uh out of the BR Nova Scotia cow, that's just such a special cow. So the the calf that she's carrying is going to be pretty special, let alone what she is. She's by M7 Gradeiron, who's by Buanachecks, and out of YR Cajun Flair, who's a Roscoe daughter, YR Roscoe daughter. So it's pretty, pretty neat little young young girl.

Let's talk about um mentioned the Pine Brothers earlier, so let's talk about their lot. 17 BCR Journey.

And it's actually a Bull Creek cow, too, BCR Journey. Um, she'll be five in December. But she's by Hubble's 20 gauge and out of H.L. Kellyanne. Anybody that's been around long enough knows H.L. Kellyanne's pretty special. She's over 100 inches herself and sold for $100,000. Um, pretty impressive, pretty impressive lot. This cow journey has a heifer calf by her side by Brazo's tough cowboy, and believe she's exposed back the same way. So they've they've brought us a good one too. So excited about that. So shout out two times for Bull Creek Ranch.

Right, right. Um, okay, so let's talk about um David and Rheta Henry's lot 20, DR Alpha's Gypsy. Yeah, big supporters.

David and Retta always step up and sponsor and attend and uh just really good friends. And they're bringing us a little young girl by uh Django. And it's uh her mother is Alpha's Gypsy, which they raised. And then she's also got a bull calf at side by a faturity winner that they showed, Hubble's Drifter, who's a little young black and white bull. So uh another, another, like I said, nice young package. We've got a lot of young ones in here this year, which is exciting for people to be able to pick up some younger, younger animals. For sure.

Yeah. Um, let's talk about um one from James uh Presley, lot 24, Mystic Maiden.

Yeah, Daryl Presley out of Tennessee. Um, this is another young girl raising her very first calf. Um her sire's by uh she's by TCC winning honor, and her damn is a Delta Lucky Ace daughter. So again, just pedigrees are just really good this year. Um the bull calf at her at side is by Daryl's little young bull just feeling it. That his bull calf's mama is uh like a 104-inch cow, just bet BCB. So again, these pedigrees are just kind of it makes it really hard to choose this year. Who you want to bid on.

Well, and also that they uh have a lot of faith in you and the sale, too, if they're willing to part with some of these animals. That's pretty cool. Yeah.

Yeah. Um, okay, so let's talk about lot 29, um, everlasting.

Another Hudson consignment. Um, she's by heads up. She's a heads-up daughter of out of horseshoe J Heart Throb. And Heart Throb produced a lot of animals over 90 inches, several over 90 inches. This girl, everlasting, unfortunately tipped a horn, but genetically does not hurt her one bit. Um, doesn't hurt that pedigree. She's exposed to uh in HL enforcer, and then was out again uh to HL Django. So it'll depend on when the calf is born as to which one of these sires is is going to be the sire of the calf that she'll be having.

Well, and it's not an East Coast sale. If we don't talk about one of Jay's lots, lot 31 from Jay and Susie, Sunheaven, Sunhaven Magnolia.

Yep. Uh yeah, Jay and Susie, gosh, and up more just huge supporters of us and um always here. You can always count on them for sure. Uh, this is a little young heifer that he's put in. He uh AI'd her to jambox. Her name is Sunhaven Magnolia. Um then she was out with a little uh bull named Silencer. She herself, Magnolia is by hanging tough and out of a JP Rio granddaughter, which she won't be three years old till December. So, like I keep saying it again and again. Here are these nice young animals with just great genetics that are coming through here. And she's another one. Like I said, she won't be three till December.

Okay, so the next lot we'll talk about is lot 37, um, MC Bentley from Faithful Valley Farms.

Yeah, this is one of our new consigners, the Rumbakers, uh, Kyle in Autumn. Super excited for them. They're very excited to be participating. This is a big cow that they're bringing. Um super quiet. He's like you can just feed her, um, walk up and feed her out of your hand. 93 inches, I believe, tip to tip. Last time they measured her, never been flushed. Um, they're keeping her last heifer as a replacement. And she's bred to a little bull that they have called F V Frosty Fox. So uh yeah, she's pretty cool. I'm I'm excited to see her in person.

All right, and the last one we'll talk about is lot 48. Um DC, no, C D C Tough Lady from uh Mike Casey. Yep.

Again, I'm excited to uh to have a Mike Casey cow from from coast to coast. Um his car his cow is sired by Plum Tough Chicks, and she's just a twisty, really twisty 90-inch cow on the bottom side. She's all Bob Luma's breeding. Um if you ask Chase, she's bred to the greatest bull of all time, Gold Mine won. So she's been at his place for a little while. So that's kind of cool though, because everybody loves the the color that gold mine throws. Another one, another one of our little bit older girls, but never been flushed. So that's always that's always a big thing because anymore it seems like sometimes when you buy these older girls, you want to make sure that they haven't been flushed or or just be aware that they have been.

Well, that wraps up Saturday. Um, what about Sunday? And I'm assuming people can load out on Saturday, but what time do they need to be out on Sunday?

Um, we'd like to have everybody out by 10 o'clock on Sunday. But yeah, uh the say a little, you know, it'll be over fairly early on Saturday too. And the guys will load out a lot of people on Saturday evening as well.

I don't think so. Just uh want everybody to come and have a good time and uh and enjoy Virginia and especially the people that have that have never been before. I think, like I said, Suzanne's excited to be here from out west. So it's just gonna be a good time as usual as always.
