What sale? There we go. Um, so for people who may not know you, um, can you introduce yourselves, talk about maybe how you got into longhorns, how long you've been raising home horns?

SPEAKER_01 1:40

Yeah, you bet. So we got in in 2019. Um, I drugged Joe into this two or three years ago. So she's she's well, she's integrated really well. Um but yeah, we got in 2019, six, seven years ago, and uh just kind of been going hard ever since. Um on an in pulse purchase. I think we talked about it five or six years ago, you know, when I was kind of starting out and bought a heifer, thought it was a bull, and here we are. Yeah.

And you're ready to put on your very first sale. What how did that come about? How at what point were you like, you know what? Yeah, I think I want to host a sale in Utah.

SPEAKER_01 2:28

We've been going to a lot of them, you know, for the last seven years. We really have hit quite a few. And um what attracted me is each cell's a little bit different. Yeah, each one has its own little personality and and vibe. And you know, I'd say what three or four years ago, we kind of thought, okay, here's there's definitely some opportunity for growth in our region. Um, we need it, we can handle it. Um and so really just the opportunity to bring some some attention and stuff to our region, surrounding states is probably the biggest.

I think like also hand in hand with that is we've tried really hard to just with this sale, just make a place where everyone belongs. Like everyone has a place, whether you've been doing like in the industry for 10 years, 15 years, or just you're starting out. We have so many people around us that are just brand new. And um, anyway, just making sure everyone has a place and feels wanted and included in it. So we're super excited about that.

Well, that's awesome. And um, I'm sure you've well, the Oregon sale, which you both attend um on a pretty regular basis, I believe, as long as my memory is correct. Um, and then you so you look at that bat sale, the Wisconsin sale, the sale, all the sales on the East Coast, you know, the more regional type sales or any, you know, most sales outside of Texas, Oklahoma, the more regional sales. And it's always fun to go to those sales and see the amount of different people that are at those sales in all levels of their, you know, uh stint of having longhorns, whether it's new, whether it they've had them for years and years and they're veterans at it, it's it's always fun to see um how everybody intertwines and everything.

Yeah, that's been super exciting. Yep, that's and you know, everybody's new at one time, and so you gotta start somewhere, and that's what we're really hoping is uh you know, get some of these people that you know, who doesn't love Longhorns, first of all, but gives it a go and and uh feels included along the way.

So well, uh while we're talking about the sale, are there or what are the things that people should know about the sale that they maybe can't find in the sale catalog when it comes to, you know, like feed, water, paperwork, loadout, that type of thing.

Yeah, with that, we've had a lot of people reach out because this is this is their first go-around, whether it's for charity people or neighbors and um heck, half the city of Tremont. But um one thing that you know becoming apparent is you know, once you drop your cows off, you just enjoy the weekend and pick them up on Sunday. Um, we're very fortunate with the with the cell barn, the arena, I mean, all indoors, air conditioned, top-notch panels, so safety. And you know, of course, we'll we might have a wild cow or two here and there, but that safety's huge and just overall comfort of the animal. We're very, very lucky to have have what we have here right by the house. And uh, you know, it's very lucky to have that, especially for a first go-around to have a facility like we have and the back crew. So really just once you drop your cow off, if you're brand new, just sit back and enjoy and buy another cow.

Discover with the paperwork before you come. Paperwork well, again.

Just try and simplify it. You gotta have your brand inspection to travel with, and you'll bring that with you. The health papers, uh it's just standard anything you're used to going to any other state. Um, you know, no additional blood work and that type of stuff. So um, and then of course your original registration with your consignment, and then uh, which we're already receiving a handful of those, but you can just bring those with you if you haven't already mailed it. And then your transfer application with the TLBAAs, where you can print one of those off. And again, when you get here, we can help you fill them out and it'll all be well organized and and stuff. So really no stress.

Any tips for um when they um uh load out or drop the animals off as far as like trailer parking or anything like that?

SPEAKER_01 6:46

No, again, this facility we have parking's not an option, load in, load out's not an option, alleyways, it's just really nicely set up to make it pull in, drop, and pull out.

We'll have signs posted too. So everyone, when you come into Tremonton, you can't miss it. It's a big giant science has box of their county fairgrounds, and then we'll have signs directing, and there's just one parking lot, so it's all straight shot and unload and come around and park.

So there's uh there's a team roping event at the same weekend, so you know, excuse that mess.

So there'll be lots of other people that we can make friends with.

We're gonna get them to buy some long horns, is what we're gonna do.

Well, okay, so all of that will happen on Thursday. What time is the ideal time for people to drop off?

SPEAKER_01 7:41

We're gonna be there. It's just right across the street. So we're gonna be there four or five a.m.

It's like we have people coming in at like 4 a.m. and there all day.

SPEAKER_01 7:50

So we'll be there as long as it takes. So okay.

So that's Thursday. Now let's move on to Friday. Uh, what's gonna happen right away Friday morning?

So one fun thing we wanted to do, because again, you go to these cells and there's always some type of a entertainment or an attraction that kind of goes with that area of the country. It's one of my favorite things. We we kind of turn into a family vacation now, but um had a little different idea because we've got this space and stuff. So we're gonna do a trap shoot Friday morning.

Oh, wait, I learned not everyone in you not I've had people message a skeet shoot.

Oh, skeet shoot.

Because I've never we call it trap shoot here, but then people from the East Coast were like, in California, they're like, What's trap shoot?

Play pigeons, skeet. I learned a new word.

Shoot a gun at it. Not actually a bird, not a trap. Yeah. So no, we're gonna do a a shoot Friday morning. Um, we'll have breakfast and coffee and hot cocoa. Um just make a little competition out of it and see if anybody can beat me first. Good luck. No, but uh people are excited about it. It should be fun. Um, just get some competitive stuff going. I'm a competitor, so it's just kind of what we want to do different. We'll have guns, we'll have shells. So if you're flying and don't want to bring all your stuff, we'll have plenty of things to go bank.

Perfect. So are you putting people on teams? Are they individual? How were you gonna arrange it?

SPEAKER_01 9:19

Yeah, we'll do a couple different little competitions and and there's prizes, so oh, awesome. You want a great practice, yeah, practice up, boys and girls.

Jaymie 9:30

And our SVP to that, if you haven't already, so we know who's coming. Okay. And that starts, you said, at 9 a.m. Is that right?

SPEAKER_01 9:38

Yes.

Jaymie 9:39

Okay, right there at the sale barn.

SPEAKER_01 9:41

So it's gonna be at our ranch. Um, so it's it's about 10 minutes south, just on the highway there. So a little bit drive there over to the to the farm.

Jaymie 9:51

Okay, perfect. So then that starts at that's at 9 a.m. What time does cattle viewing start on Friday?

SPEAKER_01 9:58

Pretty much immediately after. You know, once we're done with that, around 11 or 12, people can start heading over and looking at the cows, you know, before the faturity at uh 3 o'clock.

It goes, yeah. So we'll have the cattle viewing goes from 11, starts, and then we'll start the faturity at 3 o'clock.

Jaymie 10:15

And how many entries do you have for the faturity?

SPEAKER_01 10:18

We are sitting around 80-ish. Um I haven't counted. Me and Joe are gonna count here this afternoon, I think, but anywhere from 80 to 100, I think, is where we landed.

That's a good size faturity for the very first time.

SPEAKER_01 10:32

Super excited. Yeah. Super excited. Yeah, wasn't quite sure um what to expect, but buckles are in hand, cash is in hand, so it'll be it'll be fun. I'm excited. Again, the competitor, I was really happy with getting that many consignments for uh definitely.

Who are you having for judges this year?

SPEAKER_01 10:53

So we've got a panel of five judges. Um Jay Walker Welcher over there on the East Coast, he's gonna come in. Uh Ron Baca out of New Mexico, well-known name. Uh Mike Metcast gonna come over from Colorado. Uh Pam Kinzel, um, Pam Hughes, she's gonna come up and be another judge, and then uh Scott Simmons is gonna come there. So so cool, cool panel. Know them all, most people know them all.

Lots of experience between all of them.

Yeah, a good wide range of and it sounds like you got it sounds like one from almost every pocket of the US. So good mix all together. Yeah, yeah. So after the faturity, which is at three, um, then I'm assuming you'll have dinner and awards. What time does that start?

SPEAKER_04 11:43

Um, seven o'clock. So as soon as the maturity is over, we'll head over. Um, there's just a couple different buildings, so we'll have where the paturity is um and the cattle are, then we'll walk just I don't know how many feet, a few hundred feet, over to um the um bandstand, and that's where we'll have dinner, Dutch oven dinner, and awards and a big old concert.

Um, who's performing at the concert?

SPEAKER_01 12:11

Uh this guy's named Steve Boscow. Boscow. Um he uh he's got some Utah ties currently in Nashville, trying to build a name for himself, country artist. We've been obviously putting him on repeats, so we're we're a big fan. But yeah, Steve Bosco, look him up on Steve.

He makes requests, so I put a few things that he will be singing. He doesn't get to sing all of his own stuff, meet some bring your dance and boots, and we're gonna have a Dutch oven dinner before that with barbecue chicken and ribs and peach cobbler, Utah. Utah it's right, super famous for peach days, which is this weekend, but there's peaches that there's the peach fruit highway. So we've got fresh peaches and peach cobbler for dessert, so we'll be good.

I never would have associated peaches with Utah. That's like a Georgia thing in my mind. Yeah.

Oh yeah. Get them here to Highway. It's peach fruit highway, is what they call it. And there's just fruit stands all over it. So while you're here, grab some of them.

Cattle viewing will start at 9 a.m. go till noon. Then we'll start the sale at one, the auction.

So and then after the sale, are you having anything after the sale?

SPEAKER_04 13:40

Yes, we are so cattle loadout for those of you who are gonna be staying. We're going to have a um little social um over at it's just uh right across the street from the um auction barn and stuff. And so it's called sweet score. We're gonna have wingers catered there and um so chicken and anyway, good food. And it's like a what is it called? It's like a virtual like those golfing.

So it's just a bit we have the whole thing rented and just anyway, food, drink, simulator, and it should be fun.

Either one of us, yep. Either one of us. Um Joe's probably your best quickest bet right now, and then you know, at the cell, things will look relaxed, but either one out 24-7, apparently.

We got our phones on high 24-7. Awesome. And who is the back crew at the sale?

So uh Sam is gonna from Hoofin' It Longhorns or Hoofin' It.

Yeah. Sam and Lauren, they're gonna they're gonna kind of um run it. Run it. But we'll have, you know, a dozen little cowboys we call them, um, under his direction. And yeah.

Yeah, they're getting here really to help set up. They're getting here, I think, on Tuesday or something. So he's got it all planned out.

And the cattle should be in really good hands with Sam, and we've had him at the ranch. A lot of people I think have, and really impressed with his knowledge of the breed and and how he works with each cow. And I mean, couldn't ask for anything more in my opinion, to have him helping us.

And uh haulers. Are do you have any haulers lined up ahead of time?

Yes.

Yeah, we've got a list of four there in the magazine. Um Dino. Dino's gonna be heading who I don't know where they're all going, but yeah, there's four of them. Joe's gonna, I think, offer up some trailer space if people need it. Uh Cody. Cody James, probably heading south. Uh, John Abel will go probably about wherever someone might need. Um, so you got the four haulers there.

Okay. And for those people online, I'll of course message out those haulers like usual. Uh, and if we know of anybody else at the sale sale day that is willing to haul, I'll be sure to get those names out to people as well. Um and is there anybody else that has been helping on the like do you have another any other members of the sale committee that are helping you out at all with the sale? Just the two of you tackling it. Just us.

We feel like we're alone, but then it feels like everybody's helping, honestly. There's been so much help.

Yeah, they're huge. They're well, they're mandatory. You you gotta have them to do this. But uh uh Jason Hardy stepped up big time and really just, you know, yeah, I mean, it's in his backyard, so he better. But he phenomenal.

Yep. So the consigners, how many uh were you able to get? There's a whole page full of um consigners from all over as well.

That was another thing I was pretty happy and you know, proud of. Um, we got a lot of different consigners, which for me, a good quality sell. I mean, ideally down the road, I want 54 consigners with 54 lots, you know, just to really um I was really happy with 20, 21 different ranches bringing bringing cows.

Um beautiful cattle, too.

And quality cows, you know. So I think we ended up at 20 or 21 different consigners.

So let's talk about the consignments next. Are there any scratches or any subs that you know of right now?

SPEAKER_01 18:59

No, nope. There's there's not. I mean, we've still got a few days, but we uh it's gonna be of course babies being born and stuff, but yeah, nothing right now.

Perfect. Um, there is, I believe, a choice lot in there, lot four.

How are you handling that? Is it a true choice slot or is she selling all three of them? Well, how is Alex handling that?

So this is a true choice slot. Highest bidder gets first pick. Um, I love these personally. It sells, I think they're fun, they're a little bit different. Of course, Alex is at the end of her career, so for her to send us these three little heifers was pretty cool. Um, and a good little mix, too. They're I'm excited to see them.

Yeah, yep, you'll bring them all in, um, and then you'll, you know, highest bidder will get their first choice. Um, and then whoever wins that one, they'll move it out, and then auction off the next two, and so on until all three of them are sold.

Cool. The the leadoff hitter. Um you know, as you build these lineups, I was just gonna say this. I didn't realize the trickiness. Here's what I learned, and I'm pissed about it. But okay, everybody wants to hit fourth, they want to hit cleanup on their team. Bringing this to baseball. So here we go.

I've been picking up on that this whole time. Everything is baseball. It's like he was a professional baseball player.

Here's here's the problem, Jamie, is not everybody's the fourth place hitter. So you gotta have a good lineup top to bottom. And honestly, when we were placing these things, holy crap, in my opinion, the cell's finishing just as good as its start. And so we're kicking it off with Daniel's consignment, big body, twisty three and one. Gorgeous. Um and so, and it just doesn't stop all the way through 54, in my opinion. Um, but anyway, yeah, cool consignment, three and one right off the get-go. Uh if you don't know the phase, I'm sure you do, but you'll see what they do over there with this first consignment.

All right, so the next lot we'll talk about is lot six, um, Gucci Goo from 4SS Partnership, the Baca Metcalf Wayment Waddle Partnership.

Yeah, so this is a one we know really well. We bought this cow, Delta Lucky Ace daughter, a couple years ago at uh at the Legacy, and have got some nice things out of her. Um, yeah, she's right here on the ranch, and um we'll get an updated measurement on her, but Tanahorn, I mean, come in Delta Lucky Ace, you can't go wrong with that horn, but Um she's gonna sell with a bowl calf at side by uh uh blackout, I think 2022 Ultimate Bowl to showcase. Uh nice solid healthy bowl calf. And then she's been in with uh R. Herdsire Jackrabbit. So again, probably a three and one with some color and some horn coming behind her. So it's a good one.

Scrolling here, let's go with um one from Patrick Engeler from 1886 Cattle Company, lot nine, HR Pacific Cat.

Yeah, that's a cool one. I'm excited to see that one in person. Um, I was talking to Patrick this morning, but I mean the name kind of says it all when it comes to Patrick and Michelle. Um Pedigree loaded through the roof. Um get a nice, I mean, the that cow is just loaded with 90 and 100 inch animals, top and bottom. Um, again, I think you're another three and one. I believe it's got a heifer on her. Um, you know, Rebel HR, Pacific Cowboy as a sire. I mean, that's gonna be a cool one. I think she's 86 plus. Um so she should be 90, you know, pretty easily in her fifth year. So I mean, just a that's a sleeper. Some of these, you know, are gonna show up. And if you're paying attention to those pedigrees, that's a good one.

We talked about pickers a little bit earlier, so we'll talk about their lot 12. Um, AS Frosted Up.

So big there there's a cool group of big bodied broody cows, good foundation cows for a first timer, or just to supplement an already good herd that you might have, black and white. Um I think that's a Django. Let me double check real quick, but yeah, she's out of a tempter daughter. So again, here comes some twist. Um and oh yes, she does have a calf outside by their bull, uh, Fire King. We got to see him in Oregon, so that's a big bowl. Um so a good one. I mean, barely five, I think. So she'll be fun to see.

And well, let's stop at lot 19 from Sealers, Mac and Andrea. Uh DH Rowdy's Dottie.

If we skip one of the sealers, we'll we'll talk about her at the cell. Um, but yeah, this is this is a good one. The sealers were also extremely gracious. Um, sent us four really nice consignments. Um, so this kind of fits that same mold of big, broody, good-uttered, well-built cows. Um she's a three in one. The cool thing about this one is the ring of fire. So she's gonna come with a calf sired by ring of fire and then bred back the same way. And if you don't know much about that bowl, uh go ahead and research him. He's cool. I think he's 90 inches, maybe four. Um double bred tempter. Cool stuff.

And she has a heifer calf at side, too, right?

I believe so. Yep. I believe so.

Oh, let's do um Pace, a former couple from Utah. Um, paces. Megan, Titan, and Scott Pace, uh, 22, PCC Roxy.

So yeah, they sent us two uh similar age little heifers, both Rulie Rebel daughters. Um, this one here is gonna, I think she's got a lot of nice red Brindle, dark Brindle on her. Um, she's one that when you see them in person, they don't look much like the pictures, or they have definitely grown. So she'll be a cool one, a cool one there. If you're a fan of Ruly Rebel and you know what the paces do, that's a good little heifer to really get your herd started on a high note if you're looking for a young one.

Oh, let's do uh, you know, I can't have a sale over in your neck of the woods without Bob Larson. Um, I'm sure if if this his if this consignment is like any of his other consignments, there's some sort of madness happening there with breeding. Um so let's talk about his lot 29, R. C. Juliet Rose.

Yeah, so like you said, AI embryo king of the world. Um, and with that comes all sorts of potential possibilities, matings that you know a lot of people just don't do or can't do. So all three of his consignments are the same way. They're just the A to Cal's pedigree are phenomenal, and what they're carrying or what they come with is even cooler. So um, I believe she's carrying a Dropbox heifer, if I remember right. Um, but if it's not her, it might be a jungle, jungle gym. 29. But yeah, Bob Lars and I just sit back and watch for he did what? So yeah, that's that would be a cool one. And again, the pedigree on Rose is ridiculous. A 50-50 daughter on top of cut and dried, it's just kind of okay, you know. That's gonna be a pretty one. He's if you watch him on Facebook, he's posting some videos and and stuff on that, on those.

Yep, another really, really cool young heifer. Um, when you get a chance to buy a 50-50 heifer, especially off of that ranch, probably ought to take it serious, in my opinion. Yeah, that's a really nice cow, too. Um, that's actually gonna be a video lot. So she's she's about to pop any hour, and Michael just thought, oh, keep her here and we'll do a video lot and keep her in Texas. So we'll put her up on the big screen. And he he already sent me a nice little video that really shows that animal well. Um, but that's a cool one. Michael's been updating me on that cow, but that'll be a video lot, um, which may work out for someone even better where she's in Texas right now. Her pedigree is cool. She's actually got some Hubble's 20 gauge on the bottom side of her, um, and then some wanna checks. I mean, that's kind of a cool pedigree too. Uh, and the color on that cow when you see it on the big screen is cool. But yeah, Michael's doing some good stuff down there, so he sent us a couple really nice consignments. So, but that'll be in Texas, and we'll sell her from there. Perfect.

Queen B, she's a big cow. So this is another one of those. I think she's over 90 now, big body framed, has to travel 80 miles up the freeway to get here. Um, that's gonna be a nice, nice cow, color through the roof.

Hello, Darling is is who he put on on that cow. So that bowl obviously speaks for itself, so that's gonna be a giant cool calf. I don't think she's very old either. I mean, she's just eight, so foundation cow for sure.

Yeah, yep. That's um Amy. That should be another three and one. She's with our our sire Jack Rabbit. We've had her for three or four, well, ever since she was little. So um great producer, well built, keeps her body all winter. Um good mama. Her her horns are really nice. Um, but yeah, she's a nice, she's a nice one there for um really a beginner. But I think she's over 80 inches now. We'll we'll measure before we um sell her on Saturday, but she'll be you could be close to mid-80s as a five-year-old. Nice, nice solid cow.

Next is lot 52 from Lonnie. Her uh the cow's name is DC Rowdy's Firefly.

And so they just some of these people just make me so happy. But yeah, I think they've got uh she five, five-year-old, six-year-old coming. Um, they'll bring out of California and yeah, everything around us. But rowdy HR got her. Um colored up, looks like a really well-built cow. Um, so one of those that can just either add to your herd or get you started on a really good foot with a rowdy HR topside.

Yeah, the number one ranch ant. So that'll that's another nice cow. Um so this is another uh formal attire. So this is out of formal cowgirl, which is a formal attire daughter. Um, I think Wade sold formal attire at the Legacy a couple years ago. Um, then on the top side, you got their bowl uh cowboy flair, uh DC Flair, I believe. Yeah, DSCC Cowboy Flair, Cowboy Tough Son. Um, I've seen him many times in person. So just a giant, giant bowl.

Oh, the best part of this one is she comes with a heifer calf and it's Wade's only heifer calf of like and we got it. Do you watch her?

Yeah, so we get her. That's a nice cow, yep. And like I was saying, it the sale just really ends strong, you know, these last dozen lots because no one wants to go last, I learned. Um, but you want to stick around for all these till the end because there's some good ones at the end, too, and that's one of them.

So then, okay, that's on sales on Saturday at um one Sunday. And people can load out on Saturday as well. What time do you need to have all the all the cows out on Sunday?

I don't think they really gave us a time, but noon, I think, is pretty standard if we can get most things moved out noon. Again, it's right here by the house. So we'll be there.

Okay. All right. And is there anything that you want to talk about that we have not already discussed?

I think so. Oh, bring it's Utah weather. We were gonna say this is that it gets really hot in like the daytime, but it's really, really cold in the morning. So for like the trap shoot and just walking around stuff, make sure you bring like a hoodie or something because you'll be freezing and then sweating by noon in September here. And take a drive. Really, the mountains are just like when you guys get here. I know some people are like, Why did you name it the summit? Like, this is so weird. And then, like, literally, when you stand and you'll see, like, wherever you go, turn in a circle, there's just mountains everywhere. So they should be changing, leaves are changing already, and feel free to take a drive up those mountains and just see Utah. So we'll have a list of things to do too on Sunday if you guys want to adventure or anything.
