I'm doing pretty good. For those people that may not know you, can you introduce yourself, give yourself uh give us a background of your um longhorn history?

Yeah, my name's Matt Marty. I'm from Amarillo, Texas. Um our little ranch is called Little HB Cattle Company, and and I'm also a co-owner at uh Bomb City Cattle Company. Uh we've been in the business for about seven years. Uh we got started kinda on accident, I guess, and it's just snowballed from there.

And uh the your girls are pretty involved with the longhorns too, right?

Yes, not not so much right now, but yes, they've they've showed some halter animals and uh and my oldest Baylor, she actually owns a few of her own. And uh that's exciting. Yeah, we like to go all the all the sales and maturities.

Well maybe it'll all come full circle one day and she'll be on the Horn Showcase Committee.

Speaking of the Horn Showcase Committee, who else is on the committee this year?

The committee, there's five of us this year. There's uh Joe Slawchek is the chairman, and then we've got Amanda Hardcastle from Oklahoma, uh David Henry, uh, Travis Johnson from Florida, and myself.

Nice. Um, so let's talk about some sale information that people maybe can't find in the catalog. Um, don't know if there's anything to do with transit animals, if they need to get tickets for you know dinner or lunch or anything, or that type of thing.

Um transit animals get with the office on transit animals. Uh it's $100 for a transit pin. And trying to think of what else is in the isn't in the catalog. Um hay. Hay is provided this year by Mike and Callie Smith of Cold Copper.

Perfect. And then what about like meals? Will there be? I think if I remembering correctly, there was um some sort of uh meal there last in the facility last year. Will you have that same type of thing this year?

There will be uh a meal before Bull Alley at the Bull Alley reception.

Okay, perfect. All right, well let's jump into the schedule of events. What happens um on Thursday? I'm sorry, Wednesday, September 30th.

Wednesday at 9 a.m. they start receiving cattle and they will receive until 9 that night. And if you need special arrangements, all you need to do is call Tessa. I think the number is in the catalog. Yes, it's in the catalog.

And all cattle have to arrive on Wednesday, right?

SPEAKER_00 4:16

Yes, all cattle need to do arrive on Wednesday unless you've made other arrangements.

Okay. So then let's jump into Thursday. The the excitement starts right away Thursday morning, it sounds like at 8 a.m.

Yes. Right away.

Jaymie 4:32

So the measuring that's the measuring is on Thursday. What's the order in which the animals will be measured?

SPEAKER_00 4:38

The order. So we're gonna start with sail animals, and then uh the youngest females to the oldest, and then your youngest bulls to the oldest, then your steers, and then we're gonna end with uh bull alley bulls.

Very nice. And how many animals do you have entered this year?

SPEAKER_00 4:59

Um at on-site there are 282, and then at the satellites, there's 195.

Jaymie 5:09

Wow, okay. That's quite a few animals.

SPEAKER_00 5:11

Yeah, it's it is a lot.

Jaymie 5:14

For those people who aren't quite sure who are maybe new to the industry and don't um quite understand what the satellite measurement is, can you explain that and maybe stuff some of the locations for those satellite measurements?

SPEAKER_00 5:25

Sure. Um, the satellite measurement locations, uh, we've got 24 of them throughout 15 states across the U.S. Um It's just uh a place where you can enter your animal into the horn showcase and and take your animal to that ranch and have it measured. Uh, and then you get to compete with with everything that's being measured at all the other satellites and on site at El Reno.

Okay. And now correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe every one of those satellite locations has are has a special tool that they use so that the measuring is consistent from one site or one location to the next.

SPEAKER_00 6:07

Yes, they're all using the no bull measurement tool. It's uh uh it's a large caliper-like tool that uh you can it was made so you can measure animals that you can't get from one point to the other without bending the tape measure. Yeah, every satellite location has that. We'll have that on site in El Reno.

Perfect. Um, who is part of the measuring crew in El Reno this year?

SPEAKER_00 6:36

Michael Rowland and uh Colin Wyatt. They'll be uh they'll pretty much head it up. And then uh I've got Andrew Shigori coming back, and uh I've got an Amarillo native, a new guy, uh Colby Davis, uh Bill McCarley, and Josh Brown from Gillian Ranch. So a lot a lot of folks that are super familiar with Longhorn Kettle.

I was gonna say it sounds like a good crew. Um okay, so let's move on now to Friday. The bowl faturity starts at 9 a.m. on Friday.

SPEAKER_00 7:14

Yes, yes. Everything starts at 9 a.m. on Friday. Uh we'll have the bull faturity. It's got nine classes in it from October of 23 through September of 25.

Jaymie 7:28

And how many entries total for the bowls?

SPEAKER_00 7:30

Uh there's 63 entries in that. That's quite a few bulls.

Jaymie 7:35

Yeah, yeah, it is. And once the that futurity wraps up, I'm assuming we'll break from lunch, maybe, and then the sale starts right away at 2 p.m.

SPEAKER_00 7:44

Yes. Sale starts at 2 p.m.

Oh, so let's talk about a few of the sale details. Who uh should they contact? Should they have questions the day of the sale?

Our auctioneer is Dan Huntington. Uh he's done it for the last few years, and uh Chase Vasut will be reading pedigrees.

And I know you mentioned Tessa earlier, um, and I assume that she is the bat crew and is gonna handle the cattle all weekend long.

Yes, it's Tessa's crew. She's got a big crew and they they do a fantastic job. We're pretty excited about having her back.

And for those people online that are going to be buying online, are there haulers that are gonna be available?

SPEAKER_00 9:31

Yes, there are several haulers that they're going in every direction. Uh you got Wes Clark, uh Eddie Driscoll, Cody James, Chris Blanton, uh Dylan Scarpa, and Dan Grove.

So next let's talk about more details about the sale. Let's talk about the consigners. Definitely have some longtime supporters with uh Dale and Jennifer Hunt, Tom Smith, Glenn Dennings, Torkelson's. Looks like you have a good group of consigners this year, too.

Well, speaking of the consigners, let's talk about the animals they all brought with them. So you there's a couple, or that more than a couple, a few special lots at the very beginning of the sale. Let's touch base on you know some of them.

You always seem to start off the sale with the guitars.

SPEAKER_00 13:23

We start off with the the horn showcase guitars. Uh there's one with the the horn showcase logo on it, and then there's one with the horn showcase logo and the bull alley logo on it, too. Uh, and then we jump to the Bull Alley banner. Uh it has every bull from for 2026 Bull Alley on it, and and we auction that off. And then we've also got the uh back cover to the Trails magazine and the sale catalog, as well as the Horn Showcase logo and the Bull Alley logo for next year.

It also looks like you maybe have a couple front covers for the case.

Yes, there's some there's the special front covers uh for the December issue, and then for the February issue. Those are usually uh horn showcase wrap-up, and and then there's the herdsire edition for February.

Then I believe you also seems always to have a donation lot for the TOBT. Who is um providing that donation lot this year?

SPEAKER_00 14:27

Brian and Karen Allen of Circle A Longhorns are are giving us a really cool VR Mr. Wright heifer. I think she'll do really well for that donation lot.

And as I was looking at the catalog, I noticed a pen of three, uh, which I believe is lot eight from Flying B Longhorns. Can you tell us how they're handling that pen of three?

SPEAKER_00 14:47

Yes, they'll have all three heifers on site, and they will be pinned next to country song checks. They will come in the sale ring together, and you will get your pick of the three. It's not they're gonna keep two of them. You'll get your pick of the three.

And the other special lot that I noticed in the sale was uh an embryo lot from Landy's Farms, which I believe is lot 13.

Yes, this is this is a really cool opportunity because they're uh I I forget how many they have uh confirmed bread, but it's gonna be a ton of calves to pick from come next spring. So we're selling the embryo lot at this sale. The Iron Man and Silent Love will be on site, so you'll get to see them. The calf won't be born until spring of 27, and you can go to Landis Ranch, you know, Landis Farms, and uh and pick your calf or however you want to go about that.

Okay. Are there any scratches so far?

SPEAKER_00 15:46

Uh scratches. We've got two scratches, lot 37 and 45. And then we have uh a sublot for lot number nine. Uh she'll be a really cool cut and dried daughter with a PCC Batman heifer at side, and she's exposed back to PCC goosebumps.

All right, here we go. Well, let's start off with lot three from Glen Denning Farms, GF Roja Rexy. Tell us what you know about her.

Glenn Dennings, they've uh they're bringing us Roja Rexy. She is a daughter of their longtime, one of their longtime herd sires, Rex Checks. Uh, he's a cowboy tough check's son. And then she is out of a Buck Wynn daughter. So Buck Wynn uh is another one of their big time herd sires there. Uh she should have a heifer inside and should be bred back. We'll know that on sale day.

The next one, I'm scrolling here in the catalog. Let's stop at one from Hoosier Longhorns. Are you Lonesome Tonight? Lot seven.

Uh Are You Lonesome Tonight? Uh, brought to you by Hoosier Longhorns. She is exposed. I think I just read that she is confirmed bred to Jack of All. She's bred and owned by Hoosier Longhorns. She is a Native Legends daughter, which Native Legends has been knocking it out of the park. He he sold a daughter for $145,000 at the Fort Worth stockyard sale. And uh she's also out of a double-barreled daughter. So she I haven't seen this heifer in person, but I imagine she's gonna be a rock star.

And while I'm looking here at the um catalog, I see where it says bread and owned and sire in bull alley. You want to talk about um for those people who don't quite understand what bread and owned means?

SPEAKER_00 17:51

Sure. Bread and owned means that you bred for that animal, you bred that animal's dam uh to your bull and and produce that calf. That's bread and owned, and then the sire is in bull alley. Native legends is in bull alley. So on all of these listings in the catalog, you're gonna find uh uh the words bread and owned or the sire is in bull alley. Uh there's the DNA, DNA verified, or DNA marker zone file, and then parentage verified. That's kind of a neat deal that the TOBAA does. I it's it's just kind of neat to go through there and and see all the work that everybody's put in on these kettle.

Definitely. Okay, next up in catalog roulette is lot 14. Um, her name is Pacific Alley, and she is consigned by the uh James Presley Longhorns.

Okay. I talked to James uh back in the spring, and he said, he said, What do you want for the sale? And I said, Give me something, give me something bighorned. And he offered up Pacific Alley, and I said, That's perfect. So she should she should have a heifer at side and be bred back the same way.

I know you uh talked about Colin Wyatt um at the beginning of the podcast. Let's talk about his lot, lot 19 from Diamond B Longhorns, D.B. Silent Rebellion.

Yes, this is a this is a special consignment. I did I didn't think uh Benny and Colin would let this one go. And she's she should be bred too. She's bred to one of their young herd sires, uh, either DBJ or Armageddon. She's got a killer pedigree. She's out of the almost 120-inch silent iron by Rebel HR. That's a pretty exciting consignment. Whoever gets this heifer won't be disappointed.

And the next one is at 21, Tibby Free from 3P Ranch uh with Jason and Barb Shigoda.

Yeah, Tibby Free, she uh Barb contacted me about putting this cow in, and I said, yes, let's give that one a shot. She's uh she's exposed uh to a few of their bulls uh from different times and should be confirmed red. I think I read on social media that she's confirmed red also, but yeah, that's that's a big, exciting cow that's been a big producer for them.

Okay, the next one we'll talk about, let me scroll here for a little bit, is lot 28. HR Lady Duty consigned by 1886 Cattle Company with Patrick Hengler.

Uh Lady Duty, she is uh this will be a pretty special lot, too, because you I haven't seen very many Super Duty daughters sell. Uh and she's out of a Rebel HR daughter. Uh she's got a heifer at side by Midas Touch, by PCC Midas touch. That's uh over a hundred inch bull that's uh pretty hot right now. And then she'll be exposed back. So that should be a three and one.

Next up is lot thirty from Silver T Ranch, Brazos Madeline.

Brazos Madeline. That's uh a Kurt Twining consignment uh by PCC Rimrock. She should, I think she's got a calf inside by real deal, and she that'll be a three-in-one also because she'll be exposed back to real deal.

38 is from Norris Ridge Ranch, and she's the next one that we'll talk about. NRR Becca's jam.

Yes, I talked to Marshall um back in the spring, and uh we decided that he'd put in this this young heifer. Um she'll be a three and a half year old, I believe, and she'll be exposed to their big black and white M7 Irish luck. She'll have a bull calf at sight, and she's exposed back to Irish luck. Uh she's a KDK Fireball daughter out of a Jamaican, the Jamaican-bred uh BR Becca Katerina. She's a loud, brindle-colored heifer, and she'll be really cool. I'm excited to see her in person.

Let's talk about Dale Hunt's, Dale and Jennifer Hunt's uh lot, um, which is 43. HR Reds Larissa.

Uh H.R. Reds Larissa. So I was at Dale's last year, and somehow this cow came up in the conversation. He must have remembered it because he called this year and asked if he ought to put that cow in, and I said, yes. This is a uh uh lateral twisty horn daughter of big. Red HR and out of a coach granddaughter on the bottom side. That's a really neat cow. And she'll have a heifer at side by higher ground and exposed back to higher ground. So that should be a big time three and one, also. That's this is a really neat cow that I've seen in person. I really like this lot.

Well, and last but not least, we'll talk about the last lot in the sale, lot 48, Casanova's 20 gauge gal, which is consigned by Scott and Amelia Picker.

Yeah, Scott and Amelia. They they put in a good one. This is a this is a Hubble's 20-gauge daughter. And he's not, you know, 20 gauge isn't with us anymore. There's the only way to get those is through AI anymore. And I I don't know. I don't know if there's uh much semen left out there on him. Uh she's out of a daughter of uh CV cowboy Casanova. She should be confirmed bred to their Buzz Light Year Bull. I haven't heard yet, but yes, she should be confirmed to their Buzz Lightyear bull.

So after the sale, then we have Bull Alley. Um what time does the Bull Alley reception start?

SPEAKER_00 23:59

The Bull Alley reception starts at 6 p.m. And uh we'll have food and uh open bar, and then the bull alley itself starts at 7 o'clock.

And how many bulls do you have in Bull Alley this year?

SPEAKER_00 24:15

We've got 18 awesome bulls in Bull Alley.

And can they buy semen ahead of time or is it only available during Bull Alley?

SPEAKER_00 24:27

As far as semen sales go, you can grab a form as soon as you arrive at the Horn Showcase. Uh sales officially start on Friday the 3rd. And the count is tallied at 11 o'clock on Saturday morning. Uh so they count the the bull with the most straws sold uh will be named Bull Alley Champion and he'll win the Bull Alley guitar. It's uh it's a guitar with a bull alley logo on it.

And I know you said for people to grab their, you know, their sheets, their semen sheets once they get to the horn showcase. Is that table gonna be set up again right outside the doors where people entered the horn showcase?

SPEAKER_00 25:12

I think this year it'll be in in the main area at the back of the room. And I think Champion Genetics will be there right beside them. Perfect. Yeah. And then and also uh they are gonna continue selling straws past Saturday. I think they're gonna they're gonna sell straws through Friday, October 9th, but you've got to call the office after the event.

Okay. So then Bull Alley wraps up Friday. What time does everything start on Saturday?

SPEAKER_00 25:45

Saturday. We're gonna wrap everything up Saturday with the heifer futurity. Uh and it starts at 9 a.m.

How many classes do you have this year?

SPEAKER_00 25:56

Well, there's 11 classes, 11 heifer classes, and there's 124 entries, heifer entries. So I that's a pretty good number.

Yeah. Um, who do you have for judges?

SPEAKER_00 26:10

Our judges this year, uh pretty good set of judges. We've got uh Dylan Scarpa, uh Dan Grove, David Henry, Alyssa Butler, and Jerry McPeak.

As far as the awards, are the awards going to be handed out immediately following the faturity or what or do they start at a specific time?

SPEAKER_00 26:33

Um the awards. Uh measuring awards will be given immediately following each measuring class, and the faturity awards will be given immediately following the heifer faturity on Saturday.

Jaymie 26:47

Okay, so both the bull and the heifer awards will be given on Saturday?

SPEAKER_00 26:51

Yes. Yep.

Jaymie 26:52

Okay. Are people able to load out on Saturday after the faturity?

SPEAKER_00 26:58

Get with Tessa if you need to if you need to get out of there. Um if you're not part of the faturity or something like that, just get with Tessa. But for the most part, we're gonna try to wait till after the heifer faturity on Saturday to start loading cattle out and then and then we're asking that all the cattle be loaded out by noon on Sunday.

Well, Matt, is there anything that we have not talked about that you want to make sure people are aware of for the weekend?

I don't think so. I I think just show up and have a good time. And uh Horn Showcase is my favorite event. That it's pretty easy to have a good time there.
